Joanne is a business and real estate lawyer with a wealth of entrepreneurial experience behind her, providing her with a unique and practical perspective. Her common sense approach and her understanding of the business side of matters helps her work well as part of a team with her clients, to get the deal done. Joanne graduated from the University of Toronto (Hons B.A. in 1990 and LLB in 1993) and has lived and worked in Barrie since 1997 when her husband acquired a dental practice in the area. She is certified by the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) as a Specialist in Corporate & Commercial Law.
Joanne has always been active in her community, sitting on various boards and committees including the Board of Governors of Georgian College, United Way of Greater Simcoe County (VP, Chair of Board), Barrie Food Bank (Vice-President), Business Networking International (President), Barrie Royals Basketball Club, Minesing School Council (Chair), Barrie North School Council and Women Presidents Organization (Georgian Bay Chapter). Near and dear to her heart has been her involvement with the Sandbox Centre (founding Board member and past Board Chair) where she currently serves on its Advisory Board and actively participates in their CEO CNNX Group. Joanne`s involvement in the management of the firm (Managing Partner, Chief Innovation Officer, Chair of Finance) as well as her real estate investment and development experience make her uniquely positioned to provide business and real estate advice from the perspective of both a lawyer and a business client. Joanne is a member of the Simcoe County Lawyers Association, the Barrie Real Estate Lawyers Association and MENSA Canada.

Nathan is an associate lawyer practicing in the areas of civil litigation and construction law out of both Barrie and Collingwood. Born and raised in Collingwood, Nathan summered and completed his Articles with Barriston prior to being called to the Bar in June 2023. Nathan has been involved in and conducted various trials, adjudications, negotiations, and alternative dispute resolution processes, as well as having appeared on behalf of his clients in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Nathan completed the Osgoode Certificate in Construction Law – National edition in 2024.
Prior to law school, Nathan obtained an Honours Bachelor of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University with a minor in history. Nathan was heavily involved at Wilfrid Laurier, performing with the Wilfrid Laurier University Symphony Orchestra, representing the university as a Campus Ambassador both on campus and across Ontario, and as a member of the Student’s Union.
Nathan graduated from the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law in 2022 with a Juris Doctor. While at Windsor Law, Nathan was involved in various community outreach initiatives, including with the Windsor Crown Attorney’s Office through Pro Bono Students Canada. In his final year of law school, Nathan was a teaching and research assistant, focusing on tort law and general civil litigation.
In his spare time, Nathan enjoys remaining active in the outdoors by running and snowboarding, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Aundrea is an associate lawyer practicing in the area of family law. She was called to the Bar in October of 2025 following the completion of her practice placement at Cheadles LLP in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Aundrea earned her Juris Doctor from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law in Thunder Bay, Ontario, graduating on the Dean’s List and achieving the fifth-highest academic average in her final year.
During law school, Aundrea developed strong research, analytical, and advocacy skills through her work with Lakehead University Community Legal Services and her participation in the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association mooting competition. In her last year of studies Aundrea was selected as a Dean’s Fellow in property law, a role in which she lectured and reviewed weekly course material for second-year law students. While in law school Aundrea volunteered with the Kinna-aweya Legal Clinic, a local legal aid organization dedicated to supporting marginalized communities. Aundrea’s foundation of real-world experience has equipped her to refine her client-focused approach and to manage complex family law matters with clarity and confidence.
Prior to law school, Aundrea earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) in Law with a concentration in Business Law at Carleton University.
Outside of her legal practice, Aundrea enjoys spending time outdoors and can often be found spending quality time with her husband skiing, snowboarding, camping, paddling or hiking with her dog Arlo.
Emerson is an Associate lawyer who practices in the areas of general civil litigation and employment law. He started at Barriston in 2022, after practicing as an associate and articling at a prominent management-side labour and employment law firm.
He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Western University in 2020, where he graduated on the Dean’s List and received the Law Society of Ontario Award for academic excellence. While at law school, Emerson participated frequently in moots and oral advocacy competitions, winning multiple accolades. He represented Western at the Willms and Shier Environmental Law Moot, where he won Distinguished Oralist. Prior to attending law school, Emerson received his Bachelors of Arts, Honours (with Distinction) in Political Science from the University of Guelph.
In his spare time, Emerson helps with the family Christmas tree farm south of Collingwood, and restores classic automobiles.
