Kim Kieller

Kim was called to the Bar in 1986, after graduating from the University of Windsor Law School in 1984. Prior to attending law school, Kim graduated from Queen’s University at Kingston with a B.A. in International Politics and Economics. Kim then attended the University of Toronto and obtained a degree in education and thereafter taught high school physical education and some science and humanities courses for five years before entering law school.

Kim originally practiced law in Windsor Ontario with Mary M.S. Fox and moved back to her home town of Barrie in 1990. Kim has practiced family law exclusively since 1986, and had her own practice from 1995 until merging with Burgar Rowe Professional Corporation in 2011 where she is focusing her practice on negotiations, counsel work, mediation and arbitration.

Kim has always maintained a keen interest in access to justice issues. In 1990 she was the representative for south-western Ontario on the Joint Committee for Court Reform, which was a working group of judges, lawyers and the public committed to reform of the justice system with special emphasis on case management and the implementation of the “Family Court” model in Ontario. Kim has continued with her dedication to the profession by writing published scholarly articles, organizing, chairing and participating in many continuing legal education programs, acting as a member of the Canadian Bar Association-Ontario central caucus and family law committee executive for eight years, founding member of the Simcoe County Family Lawyers Association executive and continuing as an active elected member of the Advocates Society and has recently been elected a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Law Lawyers.. As a result of her proven ability to assist her clients at the highest degree, Kim has historically been elected by her peers as a “Best Lawyer” in Canada in her field of expertise.

Kim has been an active mediator since 1996. She is an elected member of the Ontario Association of Family Mediators. Kim also is a member of the ADR Institute of Canada. Kim has taken and been certified in both general and family law Arbitration. Kim’s current focus is on negotiation, counsel work and mediation and arbitration work — both as a participant acting for her clients and as a mediator and arbitrator. Kim is one of the very few individual lawyers in Simcoe County certified as a Parenting Coordinator.

In her spare time, Kim is married and a parent of two boys, Matt and Christian, both athletes in their own right, and has been an active member of her community serving on the Board of the Women’s and Children’s Crisis Centre (as it was then known), the M.S. Society of Simcoe County, the Barrie Royals Basketball Club, the Parents Committees at Forest Hill Public School and St. Andrew’s College, and, most recently, for the past four years as a Director of the MacLaren Art Centre; the last two and one half years as president of the Board of Directors. Kim enjoys fitness, especially yoga and skiing. She is a road biking enthusiast and she completed her first triathlon in 2010.
