Nathalie practices in the areas of real estate, corporate and municipal law.
Nathalie’s real estate practice is based in Muskoka, Parry Sound and Haliburton, and focuses on cottage country and waterfront properties. Unique to these areas are specialized legal issues relating to access, shore road allowances (OSRA), boathouses, Crown Patents and Crown Leases, severances and development.
Nathalie is locally-recognized by agents, planners and surveyors for her knowledge and ability to remedy complex title-related matters. In this regard, Nathalie is frequently retained by GTA-based firms to ensure they and their clients are suitably advised as to these unique issues. Additionally, Nathalie is a regular speaker for the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC) and Ontario Bar Association (OBA) at their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events.
In her corporate practice, Nathalie has considerable experience with asset and share transactions, commercial leasing, business restructuring, the implementation of accounting- and tax-based strategies, and incorporations and other general corporate matters.
Barriston is well-known and well-respected for its municipal expertise, acting for XXX municipalities within Central Ontario. Locally, Nathalie acts as solicitor for numerous municipalities within The District Municipality of Muskoka.
Nathalie graduated from the University of Western Ontario (LL.B.) in 1997, and was called to the New York State Bar in 1999. Prior to joining Purser, Dooley, Cockburn, Smith LLP, a predecessor to Barriston LLP, in 2005, Nathalie worked in corporate/commercial law at a large Bay Street firm, and spent a number of years with a boutique firm in Yorkville, specializing in entertainment law and contract negotiations.
Locally, Nathalie served as President of the Chamber of Commerce. On a personal level, Nathalie was a professional figure skater, and traveled the world (Japan, England, Europe, Thailand, the Philippines and the United States) with Disney on Ice.
