Family Law
The breakup of a family can be one of the most stressful experiences a person endures. Receiving competent, timely and thoughtful advice can be extremely beneficial to clients going through the uncertainties of separation. Our Family Law lawyers have considerable experience in all aspects of family law. In particular, we assist our clients with issues in the areas of property division, child support, spousal support, child custody, adoption, same-sex issues, child protection and domestic contracts (separation agreement, marriage contracts, cohabitation agreement).
All of the members of our Family Law Group have been involved in the negotiation and litigation of family law disputes. Also, where appropriate we have the expertise and experience to represent clients in mediation and arbitration hearings dealing with the wide range of issues facing separated spouses including complex family business issues, trusts, pensions and taxation issues as well as mattes of child custody, child support, and property division.
Our team of Family Law lawyers are skilled in the negotiation and drafting of Cohabitation Agreements, Marriage Contracts and other Domestic Contracts and are often consulted by other lawyers outside of our Firm on complex matters involved in family law disputes.
We will also consult with other lawyers within the Firm on related issues such as business, real estate, trusts, tax or estate matters that may impact on family law clients. We attempt to build a team of resources with which to best assist our clients.
Our clients know that they will receive the highest quality advice and strategic representation before all levels of courts and the various other forums in which the outcome of their problems will be resolved.
Some of our lawyers have taught Family Law for the Bar Admission Courses, served as members of the Executive for the Ontario Bar Association — Family Law Section, been certified as a Family Law Specialist by the Law Society of Upper Canada and have written on a wide range of family law topics for legal publications. In addition, our lawyers dedicate a significant amount of their time serving the community in which we live and work through sitting as volunteer board members on numerous community and charitable organizations.
